I have been asked by many people if I was involved in the bus accident this morning in Woonsocket because they saw me on WPRI Channel 12 News. 1) I was not involved in the accident. I was at the stop sign across the street when I witnessed the accident. 2) I immediately jumped on the bus to assist the driver and attend to the children on the bus. As one could imagine it was difficult to calm down 30 students, while crying and screaming, to determine any injuries. The driver of the bus needs to be commended for staying calm while police, fire, and EMS responded and comforting some of the students while determining injuries. Thank you to my friends of the Police Department and Fire/Rescue for the quick response during the rain this morning. Thankfully we only had 5 injuries that were all minor. Thank you to all who responded from the various schools to assist with accountability and getting the children onto another bus. Lets not forget THE KIDS. They all should be commended for a fantastic job trying to keep calm during this very scary situation. Some of the kids even sat with other distraught kids to help keep them calm. Everyone should be proud of them. This certainly could have been a catastrophic event. Thank god everything turned out o.k.
