I have been asked for an updated statement on the events unfolding in #Ferguson. Media contacts: you may quote anything I post publicly. As a longtime resident of North St. Louis County, and as CEO of Crime Victim Advocacy Center, I am deeply disappointed by the turn of events overnight. I condemn the actions of anyone who attempts to ruin the efficacy of peaceful demonstration. Those who choose to loot, steal and cause criminal disruption DO NOT represent St. Louis, the suburb of Ferguson or the thousands of peaceful, concerned citizens taking action this week. In particular they do not represent justice for #MikeBrown. These looters are nothing more than opportunists whose actions shine a shameful spotlight on our community. Though potentially necessary, all of us at CVAC are saddened that Ferguson residents must live under curfew. We appreciate the significant challenges faced by police. TO ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT: we implore you to serve the innocent by protecting business owners and residents. You MUST interfere with looters before more victims are created. CVAC is dedicated to serving all victims and work for a peaceful and just society. We will continue to support the peaceful resolution of this situation through our relentless work, and we pray for the safety and wellbeing of the community we serve.
