I have been challenged by Daniel Purdy to list 10 (or more) books - TopicsExpress

I have been challenged by Daniel Purdy to list 10 (or more) books that have stayed with me. The rule is dont think too hard (which was a very easy rule for me to follow). Tag 15 people, and me as well. Go, go, go! The Red Pony - John Steinbeck - the first book that I remember upsetting me (ninth grade?) I, Robot - Isaac Asimov Invisible Man - Ralph Ellison - the first novel that I remember identifying with in a deeply personal way (11th grade) The Once and Future King - T.H. White The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald - one of the few novels I have read several times, and I think mostly to recapture the feeling of reading the last paragraph for the first time The Bear (and later The Sound and the Fury) - William Faulkner - the first book I remember not understanding as I read it that gave me the desire to read and reread until I came to some understanding The Book of Job (from the Hebrew Bible) - someday I want to make a movie that is more or less about this book, but doesnt resemble it Romancero Gitano - Federico García Lorca - my first serious reading in Spanish Leaves of Grass (the first edition from 1855 with the addition of some later poems, in particular When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomd) - Walt Whitman Kindred - Octavia Butler - took me off guard The Motion of Light in Water - Samuel Delany - made me get nostalgic for the gay, artistic life I led in the late 50s and early 60s Ulysses - James Joyce - never finished it, and expect I never will I should mention that the comments are unnecessary to the game. Just a flourish I picked up from Danny who tagged me in the challenge!
