I have been debating about doing this post, but I have decided that I must. It is only fair that I tell the story of this sweet kitten who was called Aaiden. I got a message and a little video this afternoon from a shelter staffer about a kitten who could not use his back legs properly. She asked if I would be interested in taking him as an IBKC kitty and try to get him some help. That required no thought on my part. I went to the shelter, met him, and decided that he needed to be seen by a Vet today. He looked scared and miserable. I took Aaiden straight to the Emergency Clinic to see what could be done. While he waited to be evaluated by the doctor, he was held and loved by myself and many of the staff members. When the doctor saw him try to walk...it was not good. He would take a few steps and just fall down, she suspected neurological damage, but she took X-rays to rule out any other possibilities. The X-rays confirmed that it had to be neurological damage. Damage that was not treatable and would only continue to get worse. It would only be fair to have Aaiden euthanized. Aaiden spent some more time getting held and loved and then I felt comfortable to let him go. Although he was only a member of the IBKC family for merely hours, he was still a part of our family and he was loved. His story needed to be told, even though it was heart wrenching and I would much rather forget that this day ever happened. But, that would not be fair to Aaiden. Please do not judge me on the choice that I made. Sometimes we have no choice but to end the pain and suffering by letting them go, but I like to think (even if it were the only time in their lives) that they knew that someone cared and that they were loved.
