I have been doing this acting gig professionally (post Grad School) for about 15 years... So Im pretty good at managing expectations and living my life. But when I get a callback for something Im excited for...a potential financial boon... something that would be fun and historical... I stay up til 2am doing research on the history and character. Prepare some notecards on key talking points in case I need to improv (although they never say improv), loosely rehearse scenarios with this info, get my hair cut in an appropriate manner that matches the character at 8pm at night, rush the kids to camp/school in the morning, fight traffic into Hollywood for an early call, wait for over an hour while staying in character.... Then watching everyone go in for atleast 12 minutes each and do several scenarios-only to get into the room for a grand total of 30 seconds. The director slouched in his chair checking his phone... It was clearly already cast... It is a delicate balance of having a thick skin and keeping yourself open. Sometimes it just catches me off guard... Ouch.
