I have been fighting to defend my right to wear natural hair since 1988. And even now, all these years later, people want me to explain or defend my right to let it grow naturally. At some point a year or two ago during a healing crisis that had me in a state of depression, a "white/passing" friend went so far as to suggest that I should "do" my hair more because it was a sign of "neglect" - something they associated with the pathology definition of so-called depression. My crowning glory! One of my earliest and consistent brave moves of self-determination was reduced in one moment to a sign of a so-called pathology! Black Hair is a site of r/Evolution!
