I have been getting a lot of questions about this Ebola Virus media blitz going on…. Some of those questions pertain to whether or not it is as bad as the media make it to be….. Well, coming from me….YES IT IS….. It’s probably even worse than what they actually report…. I’m not trying to bring doom & gloom to the situation, however, reality is a ‘iatch! I’m going to break it down into simple ‘Layman’s Terms’ so people who are not in the medical field can understand it…. All of this information comes from Center for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta GA….CDC.GOV…. Ebola is a type of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF) where a virus in your body, multiplies in your blood and attacks multiple organs (i.e. Heart, Liver, Intestines). The Ebola Virus actual name is Filoviridae, which is a severe disease that has a high death rate in Humans & Primates (Apes, Monkeys, Gorillas)…. The virus spreads by person-to-person contact that has the disease, either through contract with an infected person’s Blood or Bodily Fluids (Urine, Blood) and/or close contact when working with an infected person. There are some cases where the disease was transmitted through nasal mucous and between another person/persons of medical staff who have been caring for (fed, washed & medicated) people infected with the Ebola Virus….. Right now, some scientists have not concluded whether the Ebola Virus can spread through the air or not….. The Incubation Period (The time where an infected person may show signs of the disease) is 4-10 days….. Signs/Symptoms are Fever, Chills, General Weakness, moderate to severe Abdominal Pain, bleeding under the skin, bleeding from the eyes, ears, nose, rectum, conjunctivitis (Pink Eye), Petechial, & bruising… Without supportive treatment, a person can die from the complication that comes from viral infection, such as colds, bronchitis, liver & heart problems, because the person’s immune system is so occupied & destroyed by the actual Ebola Virus, people die from other illness or organ failure within 7-11 days…. There is NO Cure for the illness….Persons exposed MUST BE Isolated from people who don’t have the disease… Protective clothing MUST be worn with decontamination procedures must be in place for medical personnel to treat infected with the Ebola Virus…..
