I have been given to learn that ASG Eye Hospital of Rajasthan, now famous in India for state of the art eye care is shortly opening one branch at Guwahati and is branching out in different NE States I had interaction with ASG Eye Hospital authority way back in 2009 and they were willing to set up a branch at Agartala, Tripura. The state of Tripura is, needless to emphasize, badly suffering from the expertise of good ophthalmic surgeons and the eye patients are frequenting to LV Prasad Eye Hospital , Hyderabad, Shroff Eye Hospital, New Delhi or Shankar Nethralaya ,Chennai for minor of problems. I had requested the then Health Minister to ascertain the veracity of their expertise and if found suitable, may allow ASG necessary infrastructure to set up a branch here. But my request could not made much head way in the manner it had failed earlier also while I requested the State Government in 2009 to explore the avenues of the Generic Medicine. Since I was at that period of time at Rajasthan and Rajasthan is a pioneer of Generic Medicine, I requested the Government to use my voluntary service pro bono. But after a prolonged period the State Government did introduce the Generic medicine in the state and the patients are availing this facility! I have written to the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary , Tripura to examine the credentials of ASG Eye Hospital and if found suitable to get in touch with ASG and request them to set up a branch here .The setting up of the hospital may pave the way for medical tourism because of proximity of the state with Bangladesh. But I doubt, my appeal would be at all listened to! Suresh Deman
