I have been holding off this review to see if they lifted their game at Jerry’s Burgers & Shakes but I haven’t seen anything that indicates it has. As much as I dislike Urbanspoon, it is fairly resounding with regards to Jerry’s. Apparently the owners are the same as the Lazy Moe’s just up the road that has one of the worst Urbanspoon ratings I have ever seen. I really do not like to be negative but I was so disappointed with the burger I had to do something, plus, people have been asking me about it. I came out here with my brother and my mate who have just started Overtime Clothing Co. The fit out of the venue is strange, with some street signs and some fake grass; there are some low tables and chairs and window bench style table. The menu is very long and unfortunately the person taking our order made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. I decided on the She’s Hot, which was supposed to be their spicy burger and wanted to add another patty but was pretty much told that I could not do that. I hesitantly asked if I could get my bacon crispy and it was like I was asking for her to give me her firstborn. I won’t bother slamming the burger too hard, what I think is more useful is to offer my improvements. First of all, the bun was burnt so I missed the subtle bread flavours by it creating such a burnt toast flavour. The other issue was that it turned the bun into a rock on the outside. I think fresher buns just lightly toasted would be an easy solution and would make a massive difference to the burger. The patty I had was clearly a frozen processed patty of a very low grade. The grey colour is often a sign of a frozen patty; these tasted like the imported hockey pucks I ate in the Northern Territory. What they need is fresh ground beef. Do not waste time with frozen patties people. McDonald’s and HJ’s/BK use them but we know that and pay 3 bucks for it. The sauces were good and they would have worked well with a good patty, crispy bacon and a fresh bun. I had two bites and put the rest down for them to clear away. The shakes here are outstanding. I tried the lemon cheesecake shake and it was delicious with chunks of actual cheesecake in the shake. Maybe they should stop making burgers at Jerry’s and make it a shake bar. Either that or scrap half of the menu. They advertise “35 burgers and 30 shakes” on their Facebook page, maybe they should get 5 good burgers and 10 killer shakes. It has all the bones of a great venue; it’s just missing the right meat! If they do, they are in for a treat because they have no competition in the area and they will clean up!
