I have been left extremely shocked and dismayed at how some people have been quick in mocking others when they have committed suicide. Depression is an extremely difficult thing to go through and the road that leads a person to commit suicide is not an easy one, rather it is filled with anguish and mental torture. People do not understand how depression is a debilitating disease that can destroy a persons life. We really need to be careful with what we say about people who have committed suicide. Yes, it is written in the Quran that these people have condemned themselves to hell. However, it gives us no right to mock them. We do not understand what they have been through and that in itself may go against us on Yawml Qiyama. Its not an easy thing to kill yourself. Psychologically, you have to go to a whole different place in your head. People dont wake up one day and tell themselves that they will commit suicide. It takes months, if not years of abuse and mental torture for them to get to that point. We have to remember this, especially as Muslims and remind people about being just with others. The key question we must ask ourselves is, did the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) or the Sahaba (radiallahu anhum) ever mock such people after they killed themselves? - Amar Alam
