I have been looking back one of my experiences with Gideon Ariel at Casa de Cota and remembered throwing from a force plate that measured the P.S.I.s in my foot work / technique. I dont know the exact pressure I put on each step of the transition but I think it went something like this. The first pivot out of the back of the circle beginning the drive was 500 PSIs then lunging down to the middle of the circle to the next pivot created a 750 PSI pressure . Finally , a shorter deeper step at the toe board registered 1000 PSIs. I used my speed and torque down through the J phase pushing on the earth until the earth pushed back. I loaded up for the throw by running down to the toe board. I held the shot behind my ear to be under & in front of the shot through the whole transition to maintain a catapult or pulling on the shot. This position of placing the shot behind the ear is compared to holding a discus behind your hip . A simple test of this relationship is to get into a discus stance or power position and bend your elbow until the hand is behind the ear. This position is referred to as the back of the pocket. Its like pre-cocking the hammer on a gun . Theres a lot stretch across your chest when this position is held throughout the transition down to the front of the circle or toe board. A very important aspect of throwing with this lineal method of rotational throwing is to keep the feet inches from the ground and maintain a straight back , eyes level .
