I have been pondering my approach to the video that was released - TopicsExpress

I have been pondering my approach to the video that was released by Marvin Manibusan and Ryan Bigler. Here are my thoughts.... When I first saw the video, of course my natural reaction was anger and disgust. Not only was I appalled and offended, I was dumbfounded as to how insensitive Marvin’s words were of women and violence towards us, most especially after what I have been through in the last 2 years as a survivor of a violent and heinous crime. The mere fact that Ryan posted it because he thought it was funny, made me more upset. Violence should never be the butt of someone’s joke. The statistics tell us that GUAM, our beautiful island, our home, ranks #1 in the world....YES, IN THE WORLD.... In crimes that deal with domestic violence and rape!! I could have been like every other critic out there and started writing posts to blast these individuals and CROWNS, but I didn’t. I already could foresee what society’s backlash was going to be, and my hypothesis was correct, it was BRUTAL. Fact of the matter is, a man can do 100 good deeds in his life and never be recognized for his efforts, however, the one time that he says or does something awful, society criticizes and condemns him forever. It’s human nature. Even when I first came forward with my story, there were a few critics out there that made comments such as, “she just wants her 15 minutes of fame,” or “she just likes attention.” Did I allow these comments to ruin my focus, no. I pushed forward. The hardest thing that any human has trouble doing, which is also the MOST SIMPLEST, is to recognize they have made a mistake, admit it, and then apologize for it. Growing up, my siblings and I were always told to apologize when we did something wrong. “It’s okay to say your sorry,” is what I tell my kids to this day. Many parents do this. Its part of the morals and values we hope they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. There is no excuse for what these two did, NONE. But Marvin apologized for it. I am not perfect and it is not my job to pass judgment on people. I would be lying if I said I never did anything stupid in my life, the only difference is, FACEBOOK and the internet was not around to capture it! The only thing we can do now is TRUST that they are SINCERE and GENUINE in their APOLOGY, OBSERVE to see if they truly are MEN OF THEIR WORD, and hopefully, this event was a lesson learned. Everyone makes mistakes, EVERYONE, but very few of these mistakes follow with an apology. Marvin has done this, so now, we wait to see the change...
