I have been preparing for major changes in our civilization and within humanity all of my life, when I was a child I joined the Boy Scouts to change the world, when I was fourteen I joined The Sierra Club and other organizations too like the U.S. Forest Service Volunteers and the California Conservation Corps were I worked in the summer once. Except for during exceptional moments during my life, I have never been content or pleased with the world as I see it. Since I was a small child of 7 (almost 8) years old, I realized (saw) what mankind was and still is doing to the planet (but not even then could I ever imagine the reality of what we have done). That year in 1970 I marched in a protest and parade, it took me two days to make a sign that was bigger than me. We made big accomplishments with that movement and Earth Day has become for me like Christmas is to others. Its been 44 years, we have also doubled the population on the planet and taxed the infrastructure to its maximum, oil is becoming scarce, forests are still dwindling, food demands increased and we have reached an apex. Not all of us that marched on Earth Day in 1970 really had it in our hearts or kept it there, besides myself I dont know anyone from my class that pursued even a similar path as myself. I have taken conservation, preservation, and environmentalism to heart; in 1990 I organized my own events and organizations, I was the key spokesperson for Delawares residents, even Joe Biden personally supported my effort there. Our grassroots work and bringing awareness over 20 years to the state of the environment and ecosystems that sustain our lives was recognized by scientists, organizations, and governments to be of valid concern to organize a world convention among all nations to address the problems we all face, it was called Earth Summit that was in 1992. The summit involved the concerns of business, corporations, science, human life, social systems, health care, and much much more as you can well imagine because the priorities of every nation were being considered by diplomats, directors of ngos, heads of state, and tribes of indigenous peoples. The compromise of the summit was called Sustainability where a treaty came into force between nations to adopt sustainable development in their continuance. It has been a very difficult road for many nations who in many cases have had their focus elsewhere. Nor has it been easy for most of us who often ignore our social responsibility toward our environment and the Ecosystem services it provides us all in the form of air, climate, water, wood, food from the sea, recreation, and much more. Now with dramatic climate change we need to take the carbon we have released (in bad conscience since 1970) out of the air to stabilize our global ecosystems and its cycles. If temperatures increase too much in places like the Amazon Rainforest and Republic of the Congo desertification may occur resulting in a global catastrophe and widespread floods in coastal areas. The key to the very existence of humanity and civilization is now on our environment, not on war, human rights, politics, not on oil, not on a new baby, or a new car unless you are getting the car to enable you to do your job working within the framework of an ecologically sustainable, conscious and socially responsible global citizen that is part of the solution! Forget about the senior citizens groups, orphans, social problems, and debilitating diseases for a minute to realize that you are responsible to the earth as the source for your life sustenance, to notice it is finite and you must care for it, because if you dont you will have to answer for it.
