I have been pretty much quiet about the Kevin Ward and Tony - TopicsExpress

I have been pretty much quiet about the Kevin Ward and Tony S tewart incident but someone got me started tonight in another article. I actually replied and this is where I stand on this and this will my last word on it so we can get on with our racing and lives. My son and I race at a local track and even with the big ole front window we have, when the window net is up and you have your helmet on, visor down and you are on the track at night the visibility is amazingly restricted. In a sprint car even more so, the sides come up almost to the drivers head, then the wing on the right side comes down almost to the sheet metal on the front half of the cockpit, then figure in a full coverage helmet which greatly reduces your peripheral vision, kinda like horse blinders, a dusty, at the least, visor (it was a dirt track by the way), driving at around 40mph, checking gauges, dim lighting, sweat in your eyes, have a black car sitting sideways and then have someone run into the path of your car in a black driving suit from the right hand side with the black car in the background at the last moment, Id like to know if you would miss him? I doubt it. From a racers stand point this entire situation was the young mans fault, he wasnt a kid or a rookie. He had been racing since he was 4yrs old. I know weve all seen drivers do this over and over but this time it went horribly wrong.. He knew better than approach a moving car on the track. If my son ever did something like that and wasnt killed on the track I would probably retire the car and whip his butt up one side of the car and down the other!! Wait until you get back to the pits to confront the other driver!! I would be devastated if this was my son, Ive lost one already, and pray his family can get through this. You never get over losing a child. On the track there are so many ways to get hurt or die and you HAVE to control your temper first.. I also know TS would never intentionally hit someone especially at the tracks he so loved racing on and supported. Im no expert on anything in this world but I do know one thing, if Kevin had even just stayed by his car and thrown his helmet, not come down into Tonys path, we would not be having this conversation.
