I have been reading about the various ideas of heaven. The Catholic concept of heaven is decidedly vague, except that souls are in the presence of God. I have been comparing that to Mormons, that most American of religions (Peachy used to be LDS before being baptized Papist). They have a remarkably well-defined and unique idea of heaven including three levels and, for the exalted, something called the Mantle of Godhood. That is a roundabout way of saying that an individual can become a God and be given his own solar system. Our God, or more properly Our Heavenly Father lives on the planet Kolob and was once a man just like us. And I use the term man literally. Women can become queens of heaven, but only through their husbands. I dont say this to mock LDS, which I actually respect as a Christian belief. I point it out as an example of just how varied our faith can be, yet we are all Christians. And Im not even beginning to address the Protestant concept of pre-destination. Remember this the next time you feel the urge to make fun of Muslims and their 72 virgins in paradise.
