I have been reading post after post about the Steger Police Department and the dispatching for it and the Steger Fire Department now going through EastCom- a centralized dispatched agency. I am one of the Steger dispatchers who lost their jobs through this process. I spent 14 years taking care of you- the Community and the first responders on the PD and FD. It is very upsetting to read some of the remarks. In one post. Buffy Glowinke explained some of the problems with calling from cell phones or VOIP systems ( like Vonage) very well. An address difficulty at Steger Rd and Morgan Rd for an accident was mentioned. Response time to an address on a Place not a Street was mentioned. ( you didnt give your address, I knew the problem when I read your post). As a community, please understand, I wish I was still working for you. I live here too. But things have changed. And the dispatchers at EastCom take their job very seriously and care very much. We need to remember that Steger Rd is also 34th Street. And east of State Street, it is 231st St. Then there is another 34th St in Steger. It runs east and west off the north end of Wentworth. It also has SCH addresses. There are many streets that can be a street or a place in Steger. It makes a difference. There are many, many little things like this that affect everything. The dispatchers work very hard. I am not trying to start a great debate, I just everyone safe. The community, the police officers and the fire fire fighters. And I was hoping to try and explain some of the difficulties a little bit.
