I have been reading some of the Old Testament prophecies - TopicsExpress

I have been reading some of the Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming of Jesus Christ. Some Bible scholars suggest there are more than 300 prophetic scriptures concerning Jesus that have all been fulfilled. Anyone can make predictions. Having those predictions fulfilled, entirely and exactly is vastly different. In fact, the more statements made about the future, and the more the detail, then the less likely the precise fulfillment will be. Another important factor is all these prophecies pertain to future life of only one person. In one article I read they took the prophecies about Jesus and ask the question .. What is probability that just eight of the most important of them could be true regarding the life of any one person? Professor Emeritus of Science at Westmont College, Peter Stoner, and his students calculated the probability of one man fulfilling just eight major prophecies made concerning the Messiah. The estimates were worked out by twelve different classes representing some 600 university students. After examining these eight different prophecies, they conservatively estimated that the chance of one man fulfilling all eight prophecies was one in 10^17 .. that is 10 with 17 zeros after it .. A REALLY BIG NUMBER. To give you some idea of how big that number is. Suppose that we take 10^17 silver dollars and lay them out over all the State of Texas. Thats a REALLY big place. They would cover the ENTIRE state two feet deep. Now let us mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly by some means. Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel north, south, east and west, but he must pick up one and only one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one? About the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one person. Now to complicate things, we must remember that all these prophecies were written by different prophets over 1000s of years. The good professor determined that calculating the odds in that case becomes impossible .. and let us not forget, we are only talking about eight prophecies, when we consider that their over 300, the number we get becomes so big that we can safely say it reaches infinity and the impossible. There is absolutely NO DOUBT that Jesus of Nazareth, born in Bethlehem, to a virgin was in FACT the promised Messiah. He is everything that he said he was and everything predicted about him occurred exactly as it was written. God vindicates His Word so thoroughly that only fools would fail to believe. May God bless you with this truth and may you believe it.
