I have been reading up on Tim Scotts biography. It is inspirational in its simplicity. Seems his father was in the Air Force while his mother was a nurses aide. He went to work at a Chick-fil-a to help his family while he was in high school. The franchise owner took him under his wing and became his mentor. He died in Scotts senior year and to get through his grief Scott determined to take the lessons he learned from his mentor and put them into practice. He has endured much bigotry from other blacks calling him the usual uncle tom and Oreo and trying to be white crap so many have to put up with. But he took it all in stride. And look at him now. The seventh black ever elected to the Senate. The first in the south since reconstruction and the first black in history to be elected to the House and the Senate. I wonder what the bigots are doing. ;) Congratulations to a really nice guy, almost seemingly too nice to be a politician. But maybe thats what we need.
