I have been searching for a cost effective way to simulate concrete in the new prison yard scene we are building at Fear Fair. Mike Krausert had told me about a product hes used to coat foam called Stone Masons Foundation Coating.. this product, called Tuff II is more or less the same thing. I am applying it directly to the rough side of osb rather than foam. I did a sample piece last night and it definitely seems to adhere well to the osb and looks like concrete, but its $80 for a five gallon bucket that only covers 80 sq ft. It smells strongly of ammonia and I have a feeling it is more or less pre-mixed cement with latex added. I did a good amount of Googling and found a forum for people who make garden sculptures and I am trying out a few recipes that I found there. One sample is the Tuff II product, one is 1:4 Portland Cement and sand w/ water only, the other two are mixed with approx 10% and 20% of the water replaced with liquid latex. I plan to let them dry for 48 hours, then smack them with a hammer, spray them with water and put them in the freezer, thaw and repeat, etc. to see if the home brew solution is as durable as the Tuff II product. If so, the cost will be about 75% less. We shall see.
