I have been seeing alot about the demise of Virginia Tech Football and Coach Frank Beamer. Ive seen every reason that is causing this demise, truth is Va Tech fans are not use to losing. Remember what is was like before Beamer, Under Coach Bill Dooley things were bleak. Before Dooley, the Jimmy Sharp era was horrible. We never won in those days unless it was against William and Mary, VMI, James Madison and Richmond. However even then, games against VMI were iffy. You never knew how things would end. The days with Don Strock were fun to watch(Strock to Scales) but always would lose as many as we won. People forget these days or maybe we all are too old to remember!! For all those who want reasons for the Tech slide I offer one no one talks about. The downward spiral started the year Asst. Head Coach Billy Hite took on a lesser role. I personally knew Billy from the Dooley era, and players loved him and played their hearts out for him. He was the running back coach and always had players make the pros. He stayed on when Beamer came and Billy had the longest tenure at Tech than anyone other coach in the Nation. He was a major force in the success of the Hokies. When Billy took a part time position, you coud see the team was not the same. You want a reason, Beamer is not the same coach without Billy, and his son, while being good, is no Billy Hite. Billy was a major contributor in recruiting as well. I just dont think Tech is as dynamic without Billy. Billy Hite, in my mind was Va. Tech, without him Tech football is not the same.
