I have been somewhat reluctant to share my feelings and opinions - TopicsExpress

I have been somewhat reluctant to share my feelings and opinions about recent events on Facebook--not because I’m unconcerned, but because I dont typically share anything on Facebook. However I will say.... It seems that Americans do not know how to resolve issues pertaining to group conflict. Group conflict is inevitable in America—It has existed since its inception and definitely won’t go away. Not just racial conflict, but group conflict in general…Liberals/Conservatives, Black/White, rich/poor, gay/antigay etc. Naturally, people will have different opinions and values. Occasionally, these differences escalate to conflict. What frustrates me most is our inability to address these conflicts fully and completely. For this we need EVERYONES COOPERATION. Resolving conflict requires team action. If the kicker misses field goals, it hurts the whole team. WE ALL need to acknowledge the issue. If the O-line isn’t protecting the QB, the receivers should feel frustrated as well. WE ALL need to discuss the impact. Rough 1st half? Okay, the initial game plan doesn’t work for everyone...Let’s change it. So maybe the defense has been doing their job, but the offense can’t put points on the board. Well, the defense can step it up, create turnovers and defensive touchdowns…You guys understand where this is going.. . America is OUR country. America is OUR team. We should stop clinging so hard to our socially constructed communities, and recognize that when any subset cries out, they deserve to be heard. So listen to all sides. Talk to your team, acknowledge their frustrations, express your sentiments… but don’t disrespect them or undermine the seriousness of their concerns. Be understanding, be sympathetic. And if someone offends you, don’t simply react with emotion, use logic. Learn from it, grow from it. You never know when it will be you getting beat on man-coverage, wouldn’t you want someone to step up and help you? Because if we lose, we all lose. ***And today the Saints lost, so everyone should be sad. So maybe you didn’t cause the problem. Maybe the problem is my fault. Maybe he was racist. Maybe he was noncompliant. Maybe he acted impulsively. Maybe he cheated. Maybe you didn’t vote. Maybe it is unfair. Maybe Im not totally right. Maybe you arent either. Whatever the case, we are all AMERICANS. So rather than arguing, can we work on a compromise, team?
