I have been struggling against the urge to fall into this Mothers Day euphoria coz to me everyday is Mothers Day. But I thought it would be a desirable moment maybe to make mention of one thing of the millions of things that I remember my mother for. Its unquestionable love displayed in countless ways. One time, fighting breaks out in Kampala (early 80s under pres Obote) and am at school. It was the army versus police for reasons I only came to understand recently. The military was in makindye, a suburb of the city and the police in katwe and kibuye another two suburbs. The exchange was intense. my school was in the crossfire area. Mum knew there was no time to waste as things could worsen. She just pulled a kitenge ( those tie and die clothes) threw it over her night gown which she didnt have time to change from as it cost time and time was of the essence and run on foot for two miles to reach school. As we panicked and run in all directions in the midst of the chaos, imagine hearing my mums voice calling out for me. It was a selfless act, one for which she could easily have been killed yet she gave it her all. Many moons later, Ive grown to be a man and I hope that since you are still alive mum, Ill remind you of this action. I love you mum. If I was to enumerate all, they wouldnt fit in one book!
