I have been studying the book by John C. Maxwell The 21 irrefutable Laws of Leadership the past few weeks and have had the opportunity to be involved in a leadership mastermind course. It has been so great for not only my leadership skills for my business but also just in my life in general. Something that has really stuck out with me lately is where the leader goes......Whatever moves he makes, the rest of his team will make along side him. That is true whether he soars in the clouds or smashes into the mountaintops. Isnt this so true? Think about people in your life...your childrens life. Are they someone that you want you or your children to pattern after...to follow in their footsteps...do you want yourself or your children to imitate their actions? Ive also heard it said that if a sports team is playing bad and having a losing streak that you can always look to the leadership...the head coach....the owner of the team and find the problem. It usually isnt the guys on the field. Think about this. If you have people in your childrens life who do not express the same values and morals that you do or exemplify the greatness and high standard of respect to any and everybody that you do then dont allow them in your childrens life....they will go where their leader takes them....good or bad. Sometimes being a part of the cool crowd and going the way that everyone else is going is not all its cracked up to be....just because someone looks like they have it all together and should be a great leader doesnt always mean they are. Sometimes you can find great leadership from those places and people you would never have expected it. Harriet Tubman for example....she didnt look like your typical leader. She began her life as a slave and ended up a conductor on the underground railroad. She was an exceptional leader even though the cool crowd today probably wouldnt give her second look or probably any respect. Do some research on her....you will be amazed at what you find. She was one of the strongest and bravest women in our history. Seek out leaders and people in your life that will make you better...not bring you down. If someone is only leading because of where it can get themselves or those people closest to them and dont seem to really care about all of their followers or team members then they really arent a leading....they are just taking a walk.
