I have been tagged by Ian Ng and Echo Skyhorse. List out 10 books that have impacted your life or stayed with you or something like that. Ian said 10, Echo said 15. But Ian also said with or without Barry. So, Ill do 10 for me, and 5 for Barry... In no particular order: 1. Champions, 4th Edition. This was my *true* introduction to RPGs. Id played D&D before, and a couple other things, but it didnt stick with me the way Champions did. As Ive said many times before, I prefer the morality to a *superhero* RPG, because the purpose is to *help* people. :-) Lol. It wasnt even my book! I bought it for Barry for Valentines Day, 1990. 2. Lord of the Rings. To this day, there are several passages that can still make me cry at the drop of a hat. Such an amazing series of books. The movies are less so, only because the books go to 11. I remember that Jen Greenlee showed me the books at Waldens bookstore in Florida, back in the mid 80s. She said they were the best novels ever written. I was skeptical and, picked up a volume to thumb through - I saw all the appendices at the end of the last one, and thought, Uh...no.. Years later, Barry told me I would really, really like them if I read them. And Jen - you were right. 3. Miss Suzy. My mother signed me up for a childrens book club when I was a kid. This was one of the books that came to me. It was a story about a lady squirrel who lived in her perfect little home. I think this is the reason that squirrels have always been my favorite animal. And here was a squirrel with *my* name! 4. Centaur Isle. Yeah, Piers Anthony is weird. But, before I figured that out, I really enjoyed Xanth. Oddly enough, I entered Xanth at the fourth book, went backwards, then went forward again. I really enjoyed Xanth, until...I didnt. 5. The Making of Star Trek. This was the first book put out about the background of the series. I mean, consider the volume of what is out there now - this was THE. FIRST. I POURED over this book. I was one with it. 6. Star Maps for Beginners. Its a star guide for all the constellations, etc. I LOVED it, and it was a part of me for a long, long time. I remember spending birthday money on it, and I think my mom was so disappointed that I just bought another book... :-P 7. My Enemy, My Ally. I read a lot of Star Trek novels back in the day. Back when there werent that many. I think I could say this was my favorite one. It touts one of my favorite story points - that the *bad guys* are just as three-dimensional as the *good guys*. 8. The Watchmen. Ive only read these recently (just before the movie came out), and I was so incredibly impressed with the level of writing and detail in this series. Most - if not all - comic books pale in comparison. 9. The World Book Childcraft volumes. Going a little ahead of myself from the final post, below, along with the World Book Encyclopedia came the Childcraft volumes - the first one of which was all about poetry. This was another book I absolutely poured over all my days an night, as I was so in love with poetry as a child. The images in that first volume are absolutely burned into my brain. 10. The World Book Encyclopedia, 1969. My childhood was spent in a world before the internet, people. My mother ordered these books - I cant even imagine how much they cost way back when - back in the early 70s. Again, I POURED over these books. If I watched Young Tom Edison, you can bet the next hour or two Id be sitting in front of the bookcase with three volumes open, all expressing content on Thomas Edisons life. I was so ahead of the game when a report was due in school - I didnt have to stay in the library to research something via their encyclopedias - I was almost the only kid who had my own. Still, schoolwork through the encyclopedias was less memorable than just randomly searching through 10 different volumes on a Saturday afternoon - letting my mind wander and learn about any thing that crossed my mind...Thanks, Mom. ecx.images-amazon/images/I/51A0B4425KL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg
