I have been thinking about what to do with this problem for a couple of weeks now. I didnt want to put this in an IM message, I think everyone should be able to read it and come to their own conclusions. I also know that after posting this, my road may never get fixed. All of these statements and views are mine alone, and are my personal views. I was recently called out for bashing our county judge. I stated that certain roads didnt get repaired because the people that lived on them didnt have enough money to rate getting fixed, myself included. That was wrong of me to make a statement like that without proof. It was made in anger with the knowledge I have of how a County, or Parish, government works, which is no excuse for making the statement. I worked for the Ouachita Parish Public Works department for 8 years, so I know the politics that are involved in a county government except on a much larger scale. The favors done now for consideration of something in the future etc etc. And as for the people that say I was bashing our county judge, please feel free to call me and tell me your problems. My phone number is 870-314-2686. I will make myself just as available as any of our elected officials. And the results will probably be about the same. For the ones of you that know me well, I try to live my life by a certain code. I believe in God, family and friends, and being honest and up front with people even when it makes me look bad. I try NOT to talk about anyone behind their backs, and considered my comments to not be taken that way as they were made in a public forum for anyone to read. I want to openly apologize to Union County Judge Mike Loftin and his wife Phena. If I had those comments to make, they should have been made in front of the Quorum Court at an open meeting. Lets get this out of the way first. I am not perfect, and no one else is either. But, I expect to be treated the same as everyone else. I have lived on the same dirt county road for almost 45 years out at Three Creeks. The people that live on this road have been promised by EVERY county judge and county shop director that we were at the top of the list of roads to be paved the next paving season, and I have yet to see the first shovelful of asphalt. We cant get a motor grader out here but every other month. What I do see is roads being paved up to certain peoples driveways and stopping short of the next mans. I see most of the roads in an area being paved, or at least patched, while another is skipped because of who lives on it. I have even seen a road that not one soul lives on get paved. My question is: Who decides what roads get paved, where work is done, and who is accountable for these decisions. I say once again, these are things I, personally, see. As citizens of Union County, I urge you to pay attention to what, and where, your tax dollars are being used. And I will talk, discuss, or debate this with anyone, and if I am wrong, Ill admit it openly and to everyone publicly.
