I have been trying to post this for awhile, but it must be the night for technical difficulties. :( Its been another busy and fun filled weekend. On Saturday, we went to Kyles work picnic at the Sports Center. It was great getting to meet many of the people he works with at his new job and enjoy some family time as well. Unfortunately Emerson wasnt with us, but she was happy to be dancing in The Wizard of Oz performance with her ballet company Kansas Ballet Academy. Later that day we went to the Gage swimming pool for Karis Girl Scouts get together. A lot of the girls didnt recognize her with all her new hair and gave Karis lots of compliments. This morning we went out for coffee to Karis’ favorite coffee shop, Blackbird Cafe, with our lovely friend Tamara and her sweet as can be son, Bradley. Karis calls Bradley her big brother and he’s definitely like the brother she never had. It was so cute watching them play games, talk and sip on their coffees together while the grown ups chatted. Karis is hoping this will become a regular thing. Later on we headed home to pick up the rest of the family and head to the Shack to meet Eric, Sherry and Emma Miltz for lunch. We didn’t arrive soon enough to catch Luke before he left, but now that Karis knows he works at a Starbucks in Lawrence, she wants to pay him a visit. :) Being their usual generous selves, they paid for our lunch and Emma had a special gift for Karis. Emma recently celebrated her 9th birthday and instead of gifts for herself, she asked her friends to bring gifts or money for Karis. What a sweetheart! Karis enjoyed all the hair accessories she got and tried them all out. We just love the Miltz’s and always have a great time together. Karis adores Emma and wants to use the money to do something special with her. Well, the fun didn’t end there. We had plans that afternoon to go to a Firefighter for a day party at a Topeka Fire Station. Kyle and I, along with our friends Eric and Jeni Webb and Travis and Jenny Oller went to the Denim to Diamonds Ronald McDonald Charity last year and went in on a gift certificate for this event. With Aiden, who is currently in remission for Ewing’s Sarcoma, as our inspiration because he wants to be a firefighter someday, we decided to invite him and his family along with some other heroes and their siblings too. We had Berkely from Berkeleys Battle and she is currently in the maintenance phase for ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), Nathan who is in remission for Hepatoblastoma, and Brayden from Brays Fight and he is in remission for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Everyone brought some yummy snacks and my brother n law, Guillermo Rivera, made an awesome fruit tray and carving for this special event. All the kids were feeling great and in good spirits. They had a lot of fun and it was great watching them all just be regular carefree kids. We are very grateful to the Fire Station for all their help in making the occasion even more special.
