I have been wondering why the Good Samaritan in the scripture - TopicsExpress

I have been wondering why the Good Samaritan in the scripture remained to be anonymous. Unexpectedly, I got the answer yesterday. I was waiting outside the parish office when a middle aged woman asked me about the recent outreach program to the typhoon victims. I told her that we had already done one two weeks ago and we are preparing for another one this coming December. With a smile in her face, she took an envelope from her bag and handed it to me. She said, "Here is my offering for the poor." With so much delight I thanked the woman and asked her name so that I can provide her the receipt. But she humbly declined to say her name. Instead she said, "Just anonymous!" I thanked her again and she bade goodbye. That night I could not sleep. I was overwhelmed by so much joy and thanksgiving. Yes! The Good Samaritan remained to be anonymous because his joy depends not on honor and recognition but on the welfare of the poor. His concern goes beyond the boundaries of races, social status and religion. His goodness betrays the worth of money and richness but focuses on the worth and dignity of every human person. By stepping unto the ground upon which the wounded man lay unconscious, the Good Samaritan embraces the same pain, suffering and woundedness. He could only be proud of his own lowliness.
