I have been working in the Robertson Davies Library at Massey - TopicsExpress

I have been working in the Robertson Davies Library at Massey College, Toronto, this week. The collection there was started by my late friend Douglas Lochead (1922-1911) when he was the colleges founding librarian. As well as its hundreds of cases of wood and metal type and iron handpresses, the library holds an impressive collection of type specimens and catalogues and books and materials related to printing and the book arts. Its a library to which working printers like myself seem the ideal class of patron. Yesterday I was looking at 20th century private press books and at trade books produced by Francis Meynell (1891-1975) at the Nonesuch Press and D.B. Updike (1860-1941) at the Merrymount Press. Here are a few quick snaps. If you are a craft printer or typographer living in or visiting Toronto you should visit this collection. You can contact the librarian or the College Printer through the Massey College web site: masseycollege.ca/library/
