I have concluded my Logan County Banner research for the years of 1889 to 1905. A few observations: during this time, three separate men served as publisher. Henry Clay Ragland was the first publisher. For most of this time, under two subsequent publishers, Henry Clay Ragland served as editor. Throughout this period, the paper remained a mouthpiece for the Democrat Party. While some issues for the 1889-1905 period are missing, and while some are faded and difficult or impossible to read, most of the years are relatively intact. The first major break in issues comes between August 1900 and January 1901. There are no issues for this period. The final available issue that refers to the Banner as The Logan County Banner is May 7, 1903. The next available issue is June 4, 1903, which refers to the paper for the first time as The Logan Banner, as it remains today. Im showing the Banner headline for each of the aforementioned issues below... Notice also the papers slogan change. One final note: no issues of the Banner are available between July 7, 1904 and 1911.
