About The Author Alan was born in March 1964 in Llanelli, Wales, U.K. He was educated at the St Nicholas Montessori Centre, London where he gained his Montessori Teacher’s Certificate and Montessori diploma. He also gained a diploma in youth and community work from North East Wales Institute. Alan went on to gain a BA Honours degree in photography from the University of Glamorgan and then completed his masters in Social and Economic Studies in Early Childhood at Swansea University. His thesis was a comparative study of two schools in South Wales, one a state school and the other a Montessori school. The hypothesis was whether Montessori deprived children of play. Alan has authored a number of books including the children’s reading scheme, The Phonic Farm, The Last Whale and Teach Your Child To Read. All are available at montessoricentrewales or facebook/earlyreadersbookstore Alan has worked at a number of childcare settings throughout the U.K. and abroad including the Royal College of Nursing and Romanian Angel Appeal in Constanta, Romania. Alan was a Montessori teacher at Holland Park School House, Kensington, London, Hill House International Junior School, Knightsbridge, London and Redhill Preparatory School, Pembrokeshire. He has also been a freelance lecturer at Colleges and Universities across Wales and latterly is the director at Montessori Centre Wales. Alan now lives in Llanelli and continues to write papers on education. He also home educates his own children using the Montessori method.
