I have enjoyed this trip to the Big Apple -- time away with Greg, meals with dear friends in publishing, a cozy hotel room, wonderful shows. But getting around New York takes a lot of energy and focus: navigating subways, potholes, homeless people passed out on the street, piles of garbage -- along with the fascinating buildings and interesting eateries and art. I realized yesterday that when we walk hand in hand here, Greg is walking with his arm tensed and a vice-strong grip on my hand, ready at all times to keep me from falling or someone from possibly grabbing for me. Where we are staying downtown, there is no place easy to walk out and sit in the sun and simply read or relax in this beautiful weather. We woke to jackhammers and sirens. Just getting a bite to eat is a lot of effort, requiring a little courage and carefulness. I have always known I was a Country Mouse kind of girl. I have always been more Mary Ann than Ginger. Ready for my porch swing, my kitchen, my car and all that makes Colorado our home sweet home.
