I have eyes much older than my years. There is a saying that the eyes are the window to the soul. I feel as though I am looking down a long lane at my life. Look into my eyes…what do you see? When I look at myself I see someone who maybe in another life fought in great wars….someone who strove for liberty and freedom from oppressors. Perhaps I was just a common person…a farmer who labored in the soil…a common peasant. There is a belief that past lives draw you passionately to times long past and forgotten. Has my blood been on the ground in other countries?…maybe some lives were better off by my living. It is also possible that lives were better off by my death. Did I bleed the ground red in the fight for freedom in Scotland? Perhaps my blood was shed in the birth of our nation. Was my life forfeit in the conflict between the states…. Far too many desire fame in a past life…some power…while others crave love and romance. I hope that at my death in the future and in lives past…There will be those who weep not for my passing, but that the world is a sadder place without me. Not because I was something great…but that I stood in the place of the weak…fought for those who could not fight for themselves. The one hope that I pray I instill in my children that the greatest quality is the desire to lift others up. My desire is not to walk in front of anyone nor behind. My desire is to walk side by side with all people.
