I have fly fished for about 20 years almost exclusively on dries in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. In the last year, I have been fishing with a lot of wet fly fishers in the DH, HS and CnR waters of western North Carolina. I feel I have gotten pretty good with wet flies in those environments. I miss seeing the rise and take, though. I will apply what I have learned about wets anytime I go back to the Parks wild streams. But, it will be a dry fly I tie on first, and the rise I will get from it is what will keep my feet wet.
