I have frequent visual auras (scintillating, expanding scotomas on one side of midline or the other), but gratefully, never any headache associated with it. I know theres a consensus that migraine originated from Greek via old French and late ME; however, as I was having an aura today, it occurred to me that the Latin term, scotoma migrans, might have been applied to its characteristic slow migration away from the centre of vision, and I cant shake off the association between migrans and migraine, both as they sound and are written. Sheer coincidence? Probably; but ...
