I have gotten a few questions about the watering going on at Centennial Park (on McAlister). Here is information recently posted on the City of Burleson page: Peter Krause, director of parks and recreation for the City, said “I am aware of the park irrigation that you are referring to and can certainly understand the concern. The irrigation is a requirement for the new turf being established at the Veteran’s Grove Park. Before seeding the park, we checked with the City water department to ensure that it was allowed during this latest period of water restrictions and was informed that it was permitted. Subsequently, a variance was requested and approved. It’s sort of a Catch – 22. Texas turf is generally considered a warm season grass and requires heat to germinate and succeed. That said, this seed must be kept damp through the hottest periods of the day and without the turf, we see the effects of localized erosion which is not acceptable nor permitted. The current permit is valid through July 19. It is my hope that the turf will be adequately established and a further variance will not need to be sought."
