I have had a lot of people calling to help families this Christmas. Please... Please if you really want to help a family in need, contact Lisa A Culbertson Collins an assistant director at SIEDA. They are in great need of toys and people to adopt families. They have had so many people signing up for help and they do not have enough toys to help them. Please, Lisa is a great friend of mine... and the work that she and SIEDA does for our community is phenominal. I trust their judgement and just love them all to pieces. Please read below.... it is an update on where they stand. They have taken over the SALVATION ARMYs Christmas program... and need all the help they can get. Christmas is so close.... please, WYD angels... help them out. Remember.... WHATSOEVER YOU DO.. or the least of my brothers you do unto me - Jesus READ BELOW: I just wanted to update everyone on how the Kids Christmas Program is going. Easy answer...not as expected. 200 families (ranging from 1 to 8 children per family) have been approved, but donations are WAY DOWN. I think a lot of people are unaware that this is the same program as the Angel Tree previously ran by the Salvation Army. Just guessing, but the trees were visible around town, and the new program does not utilize trees. Anyone wanting to make a contributions can drop off toys or cash at the Ottumwa Fire Department. If you can adopt a family of children, you can get that info from Lisa at SIEDA. When you adopt a family, you receive a needs list of the childrens clothing sizes and a toy request. All children deserve a Christmas. This is a strong community and Im sure there are folks willing to help but not sure of the details. If you are unable to get out and shop, but want to help, we have team members at Cargill that will be happy to come pick up your money and shop for you. Clothes and toys are pretty basic wants...lets make sure all of these kids are taken care of! Even $5 helps! Every little bit added together makes a lot in the end. We still need craft items for our auction as well. All of that money goes to help this program as well. Knitted, crocheted, embroidered items. Handcrafted signs. Let me know if you have anything to donate! Merry Christmas!
