I have had a pretty amazing week. Ive had the profound pleasure of working alongside Eric Schuchmann, head engineer at Lou Whitneys The Studio. We, along with producer Louis Meyers (one of the founders of SxSW) and engineer Mike Stewart (The Gourds, The Dead Milkmen, etc.etc.etc.), are working with Springfields The HillBenders to record an epic project, entirely analog, tracking to the Studios Otari 2-inch 24 track machine and mixing to the Studer 1/2 inch machine. Working with the technology has been an exciting challenge, both for the engineers - to keep this decades-old equipment not just functioning, but running optimally (thanks Dan-O), and for the artists - no pitch correction, modern editing software, etc. - but let me say that everyone has risen to the challenge to do an amazing job. The Hillbenders kicked this thing in the butt, Im so impressed with our hometown boys, and I cant wait for you all to get to hear this project.
