I have had an incredible to extremely painful week. Wednesday, I - TopicsExpress

I have had an incredible to extremely painful week. Wednesday, I flew to DC for the annual IACP conference. I was there until Sunday, late afternoon. It was a great conference. I could not have asked for a better group, subjects, presenters and comradery. During that time, I was increasingly fighting what ended up as extreme swelling and searing pain in my right lower jaw. So much so, that from Friday on, I could not put my teeth together, and had extreme trouble trying to chew anything. When I did, and my only tooth that would touch, touched, it would give me a migraine headache for at least an hour. When I got on the aircraft to come home, it turned out to be the most excruciating and longest flight of my life. Every second was minutes, every hour a lifetime. I was sick at my stomach from pain covering the entire right side of my head and neck. As soon as I hit the ground, I headed to the emergency room at the hospital. I wont go into detail of the rest of the evening of pain and waiting for care, then antibiotics. My wife had to go back out at 12:30 am to retrieve the antibiotics I could not stay for. Yesterday the swelling started to be visible outside of my face. By this morning, it had grown to look like I had a golf ball in my jaw, with a softball sized area affected. I spent all morning at my doctors office getting a different, powerful shot of antibiotics, with pills to follow tonight and the next ten days. I went straight to my dentist from there. They looked at me and immediately sent me to an oral surgeon. By this time the swelling was so severe that it was baseball depth, and my face was going numb. Chronic massive headache for days now. The oral surgeon took 3d X-rays, then sat me in a chair to get intravenous antibiotics (on top of all of the other ones) for about another hour. Three shots worth. I will be going back tomorrow morning to see about surgery or more draining/treatment. I am not out of the woods. Not sure if the swelling is going down yet,or I am just getting used to the size of my face right now.
