I have had quite a few people message me wanting to know how I can tell his shunt is leaking. Most people have never heard of or seen a shunt leaking...either they work or dont work...in our world we get to experience all sorts of not supposed to happen things...his neurosurgeon has actually started referring to those not supposed to happen things as pulling an Eli...lol Here you can see it a bit, its hard to show dimension in a picture. The red area of skin that is breaking down is right over the valve that is leaking. As he is upright longer, laughing or crying, the area swells more and more. If the intercranial pressure increases at all the shunt leaks. So we are in close communications with his neurosurgical team and are most likely heading back to Vandy tomorrow. He is still doing very well, no symptoms of shunt failure causing him discomfort. Hes actually at school having a blast right now. Praying for a quick easy fix so that Eli doesnt have to spend his birthday in the hospital.
