I have had several inquiries re: the difference between Concurrent Enrollment (CEP) and Postsecondary Enrollment Option (PSEO), so wanted to send some clarification information. PSEO: • College level courses, taught at the college (or at times at the high school or online), by college faculty • Available to 11th and 12th graders who qualify based on class rank and/or GPA • Students must test college level on the Accuplacer • 10th graders can take one career/tech course; and additional career and tech courses upon successful completion of the first course (must have passed 8th grade reading MCA) • Funding is either the school district (on-contract) or the MDE (off-contract) – either way, the per credit amount is set by the state • High schools continue to get 12% of the student funding formula, plus funding for each high school course a student takes at the high school (if applicable) CEP or CIS (College in the Schools – title branded by the U of M system): • Falls under PSEO legislation • College level courses, taught at the high school, by qualified (credentialed) high school instructors who are mentored by college faculty • Same eligibility requirements as PSEO (class rank/GPA and Accuplacer) • CEP courses must have at least 51% students taking the course for college-credit • High school pays $1,500 per course • High school gets full student funding • College gets FYE but no tuition/fee revenue • College pays faculty mentor either 1 credit (first time) or .5 credit (each subsequent time) the same combination of mentor, H.S. instructor, and course is taught PSEO Reference Guide: education.state.mn.us/mdeprod/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dDocName=052467&RevisionSelectionMethod=latestReleased&Rendition=primary
