I have had several people recently ask me for new weight loss ideas because they have been walking a lot and they are still not losing weight. First of all, if what youre doing isnt working, then its very good that you want to try something else! Heres my thoughts. Walking for hours every day is not going to make you lose weight. It just wont. However, I still think walking is good for you, so dont stop---just add an interval workout to your day. Interval workouts are not long...just intense. You can burn way more calories in 20 minutes of interval than hours of walking. You will also build more muscle, which I believe you need to do to increase the metabolism. Here is a link I found to a very simple interval training workout. If you have not been strength training already, I would substitute the jump squats for regular squats. And substitute the push-up/burpee for just a push up. If you need to do a modified push-up with knees on the floor, thats fine! The idea is to do as many as you can in the 20 second intervals. This is only 20 minutes long, including your warm up and cool down! Do this workout 4 times/week. Keep walking on the other days. Now, the other issue is food. What you eat is about 80% of the issue. Ill post on that later. Start on that interval training. I will do an interval challenge for November, but you can get a head start now!
