I have had some of the finest vehicles in the world. I have had - TopicsExpress

I have had some of the finest vehicles in the world. I have had some of the worst. I have had various pieces of electronics; they have performed admirably. I have had others that failed to live up to their claims. I have lived in homes that were very accommodating, with the most wonderful neighbors surrounding me. I have lived in places that needed an update and a change of neighbors. None of the above mentioned items differed greatly. My response to them was simply a change in my attitude. For example, my car may have been an outdated piece of junk which was perfect for me, until my heart settled upon a new one. Only then did I respond toward it with disdain. So, it is with all of life. From possessions to personal relationships, it is when our mindset changes toward something or someone, that our opinion of it flip-flops. Unfortunately, we can be just as unsettled about our Christian lives. One day, we are in love with Jesus and happy with our walk as a believer. The next, someone casts doubt into our life and we are ready to throw in the towel or, worst yet, to think we must start all over again. Speaking of this very subject, A.W. Tozer wrote in his book, “The Size of the Soul: Principles of Revival and Spiritual Growth”: “There comes a time when the true believer must take his stand on the oath and covenant of God and refuse to be shaken. He must lift high his happy affirmation, not in arrogance, but in faith and in deep humility. Perhaps his declaration of independence will go something like this: I am not yet perfect, but I thank God and my Lord Jesus Christ that I am done with the past and I do now trust in my Savior for full deliverance from all my sins. I cannot pray like Daniel, but I shall never cease to praise God that He inclines His ear to me. I am not as wise as Solomon, but I glory in this, that “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (2 Timothy 1:12). I have not the gifts of Moses or Isaiah or John, but I’ll be everlastingly grateful that I have been given the moral perception to understand and appreciate such men as these. I am not what I want to be, but thanks be to God that I do want to be better than I am; and I am sure that “he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Here I stand. I can do nothing else, so help me God.” To that, I add only, “Amen!”
