I have had something heavy on my mind since the council meeting this last Wednesday. There was a comment made by a citizen asking why the staff of the Fire/Police have not voiced their feelings in the need and process of obtaining a new Public Safety Building. He also suggested that the trust between the staff and their administrators is non existent. I am not sure if that was referring to the administrators being the city council or our direct administrators being that of the Police and Fire Chiefs. If he was referring to the Chiefs, he was wrong. I have been an employee in the 911 Communications Center for Pleasant Grove for over 16 years. I have lived in Pleasant Grove 40 of my 44 years(yikes!). I feel I have a vested interest in this city as everyone else that lives here does. I LOVE my job! I love being a part of the Police and Fire departments. These are great employees, Pleasant Grove is lucky to have each one of them. I also have the utmost respect and admiration for Chief Sanderson and Chief Smith. They have nothing but the best interest for the citizens of Pleasant Grove and also their staff, at heart. I realize I am speaking for all the personnel in the Public Safety Department, but I strongly believe everyone of them feel as I do. To have someone stand up in a public session and say "there is no trust between the staff and their administration," is very upsetting to me. This is a false statement if it was indeed directed at our Public Safety Admin. Most of us could go else where and work for a much hire wage, but we choose to stay. Not because of the fabulous working conditions, but because of the people we work with. We have a comradery surrounding cities look up to and admire. I credit this to our awesome Chiefs. They have a vision of the future and will continue to lead us forward with or without a new building. And I will still love my job!
