I have had the same PCP for almost 7 years and have gotten the chance to work with him for almost 2 of them. Leaving a meeting today after my presentation on depression, he just walked up to me and gave me a hug. I adore and respect that man so much, but even more after today. He asked how I was doing. I was honest. He knew my mom passed, and he said that he knew and apologized for not being able to muster up the courage to call. I told him that wouldnt have been necessary, but I appreciate him for thinking of me. I said losing my mom has been stressful enough but that other things surrounding her passing have made it all worse. He said, You did what she wanted. You know that, and she knew that. Dont listen to anyone that tells you otherwise. He said, Everyone has stress. I ask my patients what causes them stress. Sometimes they say Im not stressed, but thats never true. We all have stress. Its how you handle it that matters. He continued, If youre ever struggling, just think about whether thats what she wanted for you. I told him that I started dancing again and am going to Paris in 37 days. Shed be so happy.
