I have heard it suggested that the demonization of hemp was furthered by Wm. Randolph Hearst, but I dont know it its true. The story I got was that because he had invested so heavily in trees (for wood pulp for paper production,) he thought a less expensive alternate had to be brought low. I also suspect that when prohibition was repealed and the bootleggers had a legal industry, they didnt want anyone to have a consciousness-altering option that could be grown by anyone. But whatever the rationale, I hope we can all agree that the silly, pointless laws agains hemp (and marijuana) need to be reconsidered. Not because we need more stoners. Because we need more building materials, more forestation, and more options for our capitalistic goals.
