I have heard people condemn Paisley his anti-Irish Nationalism - TopicsExpress

I have heard people condemn Paisley his anti-Irish Nationalism views, his strict moral views and his anti-Catholicism. Now while I would completely condemn his actions around his beliefs, such as direct insults to individuals, and his willingness to feed pogromatic crowds the vocal expression they required, I would be reluctant to condemn him solely for his thoughts.. Being against Gay Rights for example, isnt wrong Per Se. It is an opinion anybody is entitled to. Same for Irish Nationalism. Paisley certainly didnt endear me to Conservative values, and I actually strongly oppose all the rude, disrespectful and provocative he said. But Paisley represented broadly the ideological leanings of many people (many who, if you knew them wouldnt deem them as bad people). Paisley national eulogy will rightly condemn his actions. But it doesnt necessarily give Progressives the right to condemn his views as merely a throwback Indeed many who will condemn Paisleys views, have themselves ruthlessly and somewhat ignorantly insulted and attempted to silence those who disagree with them.. If one thing is to be gained at looking by looking at Paisley life, its that democracy is an important thing for two reasons. That people must be allowed to have their own views. And , more importantly, to be successful in politics, one must be willing to meet the other person half-way
