I have heard people criticize evangelists when they prosper off of the gospel. And to be sure, there are those who would take advantage of people in their deepest time of need. But let me pose this question: Would you rather serve a god of poverty who would leave you on your own as you do his bidding, or a God Who makes sure your needs are being met and then some? (He came that we might have life and have it abundantly…John 10:10) My bible tells me that God wants to give us good things (Matt 7:10-12) and that He conquered sickness, poverty, disease and death on the cross.(2Corinthians 8:9) My bible tells me that He meets my every need (Ephesians 3:16, Philippians 4:19) and equips me to carry out the will and the job He has sent to accomplish (Ephesians 4:12). My bible tells me that He is no respecter of person by and reactor to faith. My bible tells me that if I focus of my Fathers work, that I can live off the gospel. The people I am talking about have made no claims to giving to their ministries. They have not said that if we give money to them that we will get miracles of our own or that we double our money by sending them money. But read what God has to say in Malachi 3: 8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. So you see, God does not want our money, He wants our trust! If you want to see where a man’s heart is, see where his money is going. If we are going to say that God is our provider, then we have to believe that He is our provider. It doesn’t matter what the government says, it doesn’t matter what our boss says and it doesn’t matter what the economy says. What matters is what God says and if God calls someone into fulltime ministry, then He will equip them to do it. In addition, He has found a way to benefit those who give into the ministry. It would be silly for God to tell us to bring in the whole tithe and offering into the storehouse and then not provide a storehouse. That just doesn’t make any sense at all. So be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Be careful who you criticize because you may be knocking God’s anointed and do you really want to do that? And be careful who you give to. Pray about it consider it carefully. If God gives you the ok on it, then by all means give. Let Him be the rewarder.
