I have heard people say that we should live our lives by the golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. This saying comes from the Bible and is spoken by Jesus in the 6th chapter of the Book of Luke. Usually along with this saying is conversation that leads one to believe that we should just live and let live. I agree we should love people where they are. I believe we are commanded by God to love all people because we are made in God’s image. As a Christian I try to live my life to bring Glory and Honor to God. As I continue to grow and learn and try to have a deeper understanding of the great price that Jesus Christ paid to redeem me to God the Father I find myself spending more time in His Word. The more I read His Word the more I learn that there is no part of God’s Word that I can dismiss as irrelevant and thus ignore. I believe God’s Word does not change. And if it was relevant in years gone by then I believe it is relevant today. I must accept everything I read in the Old Testament as well as everything in the New Testament. If God condemned actions in the Old Testament then that behavior is condemned today. Where I find myself struggling is in trying to understand how some “Christians” can so easily accept certain sin as something other than direct rebellion toward God. As a Christian how should we respond to sin in general and how should we respond to it specifically? It seems so easy to say that all people sin so therefore we should just accept it as just how life is. Since we have came to the revelation of who Jesus Christ is and what he has done to give us eternal life, and who has given us his Holy Spirit to lead and guide us and convict us of our sins continue to live in and be accepting and supportive of sin in others? How do we, if living in sin and accepting sin and condoning sin, explain to others how Jesus Christ, who lived a life free from sin, died for us to pay the price for our sins to give us eternal life? 2nd Corinthians warns us that ““For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness?” So how can we be children of the Almighty if we continue to live in, accept, and condone sin in ourselves and other Christians?
