I have heard those who take the following out of context too many - TopicsExpress

I have heard those who take the following out of context too many times. I just saw another do it. The following is about people who were returning to Judaism after hearing the truth and making some kind of embrace of Christianity and turning back away from it. Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, Heb 10:27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Heb 10:29 gives the context. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? They trampled the truth. They rejected it and turned back to their old way Their hope was over for they could not turn back to the Gospel. Hebrews 10 is full of context if one will but read the entire thing. God has never closed the door for one who repents of any other sin but the one talked about in Heb 10 is not one that leaves the door open to return. 10:26 is a solemn warning. It warns against deliberate apostasy of those who have known the truth (though not regenerated). If they renounced the truth of Christianity by turning back to Judaism they trampled under foot the Son of God and counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith they were sanctified an unholy thing; for such horrible, deliberate contempt there was no repentance and no remedy.
