I have ignored that statement that was made by Kiambu Governor - TopicsExpress

I have ignored that statement that was made by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo on Saturday for 3 days for the same reason I always ignore him and anything he utters - I simply dont take him seriously! I must, however, mention that what I read in the papers suggests that he took a swipe at both unmarried men and women who are above 35 and suggested that they are not fit to hold public office because [a] person who cannot lead a family cannot lead a nation. I am perturbed by Kabogos statement and some of the reactions to it. His statement seems to me like an attack on bachelors and spinters alike, and not women generally or unmarried women only! I would therefore expect those reacting to the statement to deal with it holistically and for what it is. For when those facing attack start dividing themselves into groups (based on gender etc) they also seem as prejudiced as the attacker. Back to Kabogos statement: I think the Kiambu Governor is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with our politics and governance. To suggest that ones marital status should determine whether or not they hold office is not only inconsistent with the provisions of Article 27 of the Constitution but also, for the lack of a better word, silly. It gets even worse when such a suggestion is made in a country where suspected murderers and drug barons hold high offices.
